pearl skin nonsense

by Author

So, ‘pearl skin’ is now a thing. Yeah, because we all have time in our lives to worry about looking like we just walked out of a Renaissance painting. Who seriously decided that we should all start mimicking pearls instead of just having regular skin like a normal human being? I mean, it’s not like the glass skin trend was already asking a lot from us.

Honestly, all of this just sounds like a glorified way of slapping more expensive creams on your face to achieve that, oh-so-elusive, ‘I woke up like this’ look that takes an hour to create. Call it satin luminosity all you want, but at the end of the day, it’s just another excuse to sell more overpriced makeup with mica particles in it. Maybe they could have called it ‘less greasy’ instead? I guess that’s not fancy enough.

What’s wrong with just having skin? I mean, it’s doing its job, isn’t it? But no, someone has to rob my wallet and golden shine my face because apparently looking greasy is out, and looking like I swallowed a light bulb with finesse is in. Shouldn’t matter that half the time I’m just trying not to spill coffee on myself on my way to the office.

And really, ‘wearable office-appropriate glow’? Because I’m sure my colleagues will appreciate the difference between my modest pearl-like shine versus an outright clear gloss shine when we’re all drowning in deadlines anyway. But wait, let’s spend hours achieving that soft-focus look at 6 am when most of us barely know what day it is. Genius.

The way these trends keep evolving just leaves me baffled. I’ll stick to sharing my gripes here whenever they decide to invent some other ridiculous trend. I’m done.
