why is beauty advice always so weird?

I was thinking about this beauty advice thing. You know, the kind that’s always a mishmash of miracle serums and outrageously priced creams. Why is it that beauty advice sounds like a sales pitch wrapped in a Pinterest board? (It’s an art, apparently.)

Okay, so, Chassie Post. I heard she’s got like a whole reel of these tips. FCL Wednesday, or something. Anyway, what’s with the fascination of transforming our faces with things that look like borrowed from a sci-fi movie? (I mean, who was it that decided jade rollers are a must-have?) It’s like every day there’s a new tool to rub on your face—my bathroom sink is already loaded with these things!

And then there’s these concoctions in bottles, costing more than my monthly coffee subscription. Eternally promised glow in a bottle, but am I the only one scratching my head wondering if it’s all in our minds? Someone has to get rich, I guess. (Why not them, right?) Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out how a tiny dab of eye cream is supposed to fix years of Netflix binging-induced raccoon eyes.

It’s not all bad, though. Some advice has come through—like those moments when an unknown brand suddenly becomes your go-to. It’s always the unexpected stuff. Though mostly these miracle solutions end up in my “don’t know why I bought this” drawer. There’s also advice that sounds great in theory, until you try to ‘gently tap the product’ onto your face and somehow end up poking your eyes. Ah, so soothing.

Let’s face it, the weird list of gadgets never ends, and I can’t help but peek at these quirky trends unfolding. Maybe I’m secretly hoping to find something that doesn’t burn a hole in my wallet or smudge on my pillow.

Anyway, my hunt for the holy grail of face magic continues. In the meantime, I’ll stick to my tried-and-true methods of getting clean—water and a semi-decent moisturizer. My eyes still hurt. I need coffee. Ugh.
