so, her hair is basically a broom now

You know when someone says their hair is ‘fried’? Well, I recently stumbled across this notion—someone else said it, and I couldn’t help but cringe. Literally. Imagine a plate of perfectly crispy fries. Now apply that concept to hair. Yep, that’s the texture you’re thinking about. So painful. I saw it written somewhere (maybe in a beauty blog I follow), and my scalp shuddered at the thought.

But anyway, back to the crispy situation. There are tons of ways things can go sideways when it comes to hair care. Just watch the wrong YouTube tutorial, decide bleaching your own roots sounds easy, or follow some DIY that involves a questionable concoction of lemon juice and sunlight. Presto! You’ve got yourself a nice new straw hat—except it’s your hair… on your head.

And then what do you do? You march into a salon, only to see the hairdresser’s face go through the seven stages of hell silently. It’s awkwardly fascinating how they try to remain tactful, murmuring that your ‘desired look’ might need some ‘modifications’—read: a full rescue mission involving conditioners, prayers, and possibly a seance.

It’s not like they just wave a magic wand and poof! Everything is fixed. It’d probably be quicker to grow new hair overnight than to repair the damage. But you sit there, feeling the heat from the dryer and bewildered whispers of ‘What did you do?’ over your head.

Yeah, sometimes even the best stylists just have to shake their heads and lean into a recovery plan that involves a lot of deep conditioning, and maybe a grief session over a latte afterward. Just a thought. Why do we still encourage bleach overkill when all it does is leave us with artsy memes of burnt toast?

Anyway, my eyes are still watering from a friend’s blow-dry invitation the other day. If this experience taught me anything, it’s that attempting professional hair jobs at home never ends well. I think I’ll stick to safer activities now—like binging fail videos on a Sunday morning. Much less risky! Ugh, I need caffeine.
